Lyme Chat: 11-10-2013

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the men and women who have served & are currently serving!
Veterans Day

Thank a Vet today!

Yesterdays Lyme Chat, we discussed,

“When friends & family don’t believe or understand your illness”

I did something a bit different during this Lyme Chat- a big thank you to my brother Luke, who helped me film this short video clip of a scenario, which the first 3 questions of the chat were based upon;

Lyme Chat Questions:

Q1: After watching the video clip, what are your initial thoughts/reactions?

Q2: If you were in this situation, how would you handle it?

Q3: Would you handle it differently if this occurred between you & a friend vs. you & a family member? Why or why not?

Q4: What are some methods, tools, info, etc. that helps you explain your illness(es) to someone who does not understand?

Q5: When saying a person does not “believe” is it that they don’t believe in your illness or do not believe you’re sick? Both?

Q6: Would you cut a friend or family member out of your life if they were not understanding or believe in your illness? Why or why not?

Q7: I can’t help but feel the need to justify my invisible illnesses to acquaintances at times; how do you overcome this?

As always, I would like to thank all those for participating and those who have given feedback. I definitely will have this topic again in the future, as it is a very challenging topic. Also, if you have any tools, resources, info to share on what may help with this topic overall, please let me know so I can post it! I myself will continue researching this topic as I still get frustrated how to answer to those who tell me, “But you don’t look sick….”

There will be no Lyme Chat this Sunday, November 17th but will be back Sunday, November 24th at 8pm EST/5pm PT on Twitter

Sharing what it is like to live with Lyme disease & other chronic illnesses to spread awareness; health advocate;
